This course, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite to all other
courses.
A 4-lesson course to introduce hardware, software, terminology, Microsoft Windows basics and the use of a mouse and keyboard to control the computer. To accomplish this, you will work with MS/Paint, MS/Word, and various games. Software used for this course is “Microsoft Windows Basics”. A moderate increase in proficiency will be recognized by the student.

“Intro to Computers, Part One” or proficiency exam.
An 8-lesson course covering Word Processing, Spreadsheets,
Databases and the Internet. The student
will become familiar with various features of Microsoft Works Suite software.
You will learn how to use the “Help” feature, create and save documents, access
existing files, create folders, understand basic navigation and be introduced
to how to use some Microsoft applications such as Word, Spread Sheets, Data
Base, and Graphics. The course also includes a basic introduction to browsing
the Internet and using e-mail. This is
a concept driven course. This is a
required class for those new to computers or with limited experience.

Prerequisite – Pass “Intro to Computers,
Part Two” or proficiency exam.
A 4-lesson course on the general use of the computer to access the Internet using Microsoft Internet Explorer software. You will learn the skills necessary to join the 20 million older adults who are already online and become a part of the exciting, fast-growing Internet community, browsing the World Wide Web, using e-mail services, and investigating online discussions. The course covers signing on to the Internet, sending and receiving email, finding your way around on the “Information Super-Highway” with addresses and search engines, and downloading files of information in your areas of interest. Attachments to an e-mail message will also be covered. The Software used for this course is “Microsoft Internet Explorer” and “Microsoft Outlook Express”.

An 8-lesson course covering the general use of Microsoft Word software. The lessons focus on the techniques of using Microsoft Word for your general correspondence and to create things such as newsletters, envelopes, labels and other documents. You will learn how to set margins, create headers and footers, insert graphics, and spell check and print your documents. The course is intended to help students grow in their ability to enjoy the activity of writing, using the computer as a tool. You will be given the opportunity to be “creative”.

general application of graphics using Sierra Print Artist software. The lessons open up the fun and creative
world of making greeting cards, certificates, flyers, signs, banners, calendars
and more. The course will show you how to creatively combine textual
information with graphics to produce a pleasant looking piece for printing. You
will be given the opportunity to exercise your own creativity and complete ten
(10) fun projects during the course.

resources on the World Wide Web and learn how to create family books.
